The residential section of the Nancy Creek area is one of Dekalb’s oldest and most pristine communities. Encompassing neighborhoods such as Ashford Forest, Oak Forest, and Nancy Creek Heights, the community has thrived since its construction in the 1950’s.
The area boasts a convenient proximity to the city of Atlanta while still maintaining a distinctly residential feel. The region features a multitude of well-maintained homes lined by hardwood trees all within walking distance to several parks and an elementary school. The community has, in fact, remained one hundred percent residential since the early days of its construction. The separation from the stores and commercial office space of the Perimeter Mall area has been maintained by a buffer of green space along Perimeter Summit Parkway and Lake Hearn Drive. It is only now that the proposed Georgia Power substation threatens to encroach upon the neighborhood’s sanctity.
Previously earmarked for additional green space to blend in with the surrounding neighborhood design, the proposed substation site would erode the tranquility and separation from industry that has defined and benefited our community since its conception.
