A Fulton County Superior Court judge ruled Nov. 6 that the Public
Service Commission must review where Georgia Power builds electrical
substations.

The case, brought by Ashford Alliance's Jeff Turnage, is
related to the north DeKalb community's fight against the utility
giant, which is building a substation at the entrance to their
neighborhood

Actual Video of a sub station explosion....
Georgia Power, working for you.....

This is a tranformer at a substation. The low voltage side of this transformer shorted, causing an arc that ate away the steel transformer. The mineral oil inside started to boil from the heat, gushing from the sides and causing the explosion. Firefighters were standing on a hill nearby but could not attempt to put it out, as it was still energized.

Neighborhood Position

Ashford Forest, Oak Forest and the other neighborhoods that straddle Ashford Dunwoody Road is a very residential area. Our close proximity to large corporate and commercial centers makes our location enviable from a residential standpoint, but also makes us prime candidates for industrial encroachment.

Nevertheless, the division between the corporate, commercial, retail and residential areas could not be more starkly evident. As Ashford Dunwoody Road crests the hill at Perimeter Summit Parkway (aptly named), it becomes very obvious that you’ve entered into a residential area, where children ride bicycles and walk to the local elementary school. To this point, the division between the residential and commercial areas has been well maintained by the greenspace buffer that makes up the southern border of Perimeter Summit Parkway. We, the residents of this community, believe that this division needs to be maintained.
